Rebecca has worked in the design of public & institutional open spaces, landscapes, and outdoor exhibits for over 10 years. She received her Masters in Landscape Architecture in 2013 from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she also gained her graphic design chops and her love for visual communication. Rebecca got her first taste of artistic expression through photography. In her photographs she employs idea of the artist’s bias of the photographic lens (showing only what you want to viewer to see) and began to experiment using long exposures and double exposures and currently explores digital photographic manipulation.
Rebecca’s undergraduate degree in neuroscience expanded her understanding of the human systems of sensory and perception. She continued with a career in landscape architecture, interested in the intersection of spatial design and how each individual will perceive these spaces. This focus on design was especially exciting to explore with public art installations & exhibits, which she helped to create while working at San Francisco’s Exploratorium Science Museum. She continues to try to understand how to leverage the perception of space in her landscape design, photography, and graphic design work.

ORIGINS
Rebecca was born on Nantucket, a small island off the coast of Massachusetts. Her native place has formed outlook on life and her approach to design. Life on an island with limited space and resources enforces a need for sustainable practices. It also provided a constant reminder of how fragile the ecological systems are that supported the shellfish industry, which her family was dependent upon. The strong forces of the ocean-driven weather that sometimes limited travel off island or food coming on island provided Rebecca with a healthy respect for the power of nature over man.
Rebecca spent summers working at her family’s vegetable farm and nursery and planting and maintaining landscapes for several landscape designers on island. Since her time on Nantucket, she has spent most of her adult life in the San Francisco bay area. While the bay reminds her of home, it is an urban landscape with large scale complex systems. Rebecca brings her perspective derived from self-reliant island living to this urban setting, instilling some of the community, creativity, and resilience of her childhood.
